To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pokémon and the 40th anniversary of ANA’s international routes, All Nippon Airways has launched a special project featuring three special Pokémon liveries: “Red,” “Green,” and “Blue.” Kicking off the series is the “Red” jet, showcasing ten fire-type Pokémon. While “Red” and “Blue” will primarily operate on domestic Japanese routes, the “Blue” aircraft will take to international skies. The Red aircraft bears the registration number JA819A and was painted by MRO Japan in Okinawa.

Exciting in-game events and special bonuses await Pokémon GO trainers across participating airports.
  • The collaboration is divided into three distinct phases. Phase 1 runs from July 28, 2026, at 16:00 to August 31, 2027, at 20:00 (Japan Standard Time, JST).
  • Phases 2 and 3 will roll out at airports across Japan in tandem with the launches of the “Pokémon Jet Green” and “Pokémon Jet Blue.” Further details will be announced on the official event website and Pokémon GO’s official channels.
    • Phase 1 Airports: New Chitose Airport, Hakodate Airport, Akita Airport, Sendai Airport, Haneda Airport (Terminals 2 and 3), and Narita Airport (Terminal 1).
  • PokéStops and Gyms: One PokéStop and one Gym featuring special designs will be added to each target airport (multiple locations will be featured at Narita Terminal 1 and Haneda Terminals 2 and 3).

  • Timed Research: Exclusive Timed Research will be unlocked by visiting participating airports.
    • Complete tasks to earn encounters with event-themed Pokémon. Trainers can claim this reward once per participating airport during Phase 1 (Please note: Timed Research rewards expire 3 days after claiming).

Cabin Interior and Amenities

Because the first “Red” jet is configured for ANA’s domestic network, international aircraft will feature a different cabin layout. Be sure to double-check whether your booked flight is domestic or international when checking cabin specifications. Jesse has also put together a complete cabin layout photo review of the 787-8 domestic configuration (coming soon).

Behind the Scenes & Press Notes

For this livery unveiling, Jesse was the sole media representative from Taiwan and attending a Japanese corporate press event for the first time. The biggest difference was having a generous amount of time—about 2.5 hours—to meticulously capture all the fine details. The Japanese media turnout was also strikingly different from what we typically see in Taiwan, including a dedicated three-person crew equipped with professional audio gear. Stepping into ANA’s maintenance hangar once again, it’s clear how notoriously difficult it is to book their popular Blue Hangar Tour—refreshing for two weeks straight yielded no open slots during the peak summer family vacation season. Fortunately, I managed to secure a spot on another highly sought-after tour: the ANA Blue Base Tour, which offers a fascinating look inside their training center.
